The capybara is native to this area and during your stay at Estancia Don Joaquin you will have several opportunities to see them in the wild.  They are the largest rodent in the world standing at around 1.5 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing around 120 pounds.  They live in groups and can be found wading in the shallows or on the banks of the lagoons.  Capybaras are excellent swimmers with their webbed feet and because their eyes, ears and nose are all positioned at the top of their head they are able to lift only those parts out of the water and keep the rest of their bodies hidden under the surface.

“Free Ride”, a program on the UK’s Discovery Channel, visited Estancia Don Joaquin for 4 days.

We took them on one of our Wildlife Safaris to get an up-close look at the capybara…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U7xdfAZnkA
